Audi rs4

The transmission of the car is also mounted directly at the back of the engine and that too in the same longitudinal position. The transmission is set in the form of a transaxle, and consists of both a front and a central differential. The initials used in the name of the car, “RS” were taken from the German language; RennSport, which when translated to English means Racing Sport. Like all of the RS model cars designed by Audi, the RS4 also boasts some of the latest technology developed by Audi, and the term ‘halo vehicle’ could certainly be used to described the Audi RS4.

Moreover, the Audi RS4 is exclusively available with Audi’s Torsen based trademark Quattro permanent system of the four wheel drive. The Audi RS4’s main market competitors at the launch of the car were the BMW M3, the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG as well as the Lexus IS-F.

The Audi RS4 was originally released back in 1999, and was set in the assembly line for manufacture and production in the early 2000s. The car was only available as an Avant model at the beginning, but then the saloon/sedan model were introduced. Initially, the retail price of the car was around Deutsche Mark 103, 584. The Audi RS4 became available for sale in the major parts of Europe, a few parts of Asia and some of the Latin American countries. Overall, the Audi RS4 is a great car with all of the exciting options and would now be available at a very cheap price as production has ceased.

Chrysler crossfire

The engine bay of the Chrysler Crossfire is visually similar to the Mercedes Benz SLK320, which was built on the R170 platform. This engine housing bay proved to be reliable option when it came to housing Mercedes V8 engines, and this escalates the performance of the car significantly. Even the wheel base of the car and the track width is similar to the Mercedes Benz SLK320.

The same seats that were used in the Mercedes Benz SLK320 have now been used in the Crossfire chassis. The car comes with a standard transmission of 6 speeds manual but an optional 5 speed automatic transmission is also available. The standard models come with a 3.2L, 18 valve, SOHC V6 engine which is capable of producing 215 horse power and approximately 310 Nm of torque.

Corvette ss

The weight of the car is approximately 1000kg, as it was designed for racing purposes and hence extra weight had to be curbed to meet the requirements of the racing track. The V 8 engine offers immense for a car of its design, and the Corvette SS claimed huge acclaim from racing fans and drivers alike.

The 50th anniversary of the Corvette Stingray Project was held at the Dubai International Motor Show, as the new model of the Corvette SS was on exhibit for customers. The new car sports Michelin tires, and has a carbon fiber roof and hood for a very attractive design. The rear rims of the car have been extended to a diameter of 20 inches, which is huge for a car of its type, and the Corvette SS still maintains all of its stylish looks and designs that it had around fifty years ago.

Camaro

The second generation Camaro lasted a full ten years, when the third generation stepped in. The third generation Camaro took the look of a sports car, with a very sleek design and stylish body structure. It was also the first ever Camaro to offer modern fuel injection methods, resulting in a faster pick up and higher speeds. The third generation Chevrolet Camaro also featured Turbo-Hydramatic 700R4 four-speed automatic transmissions, five speed manual transmissions, 16†inch wheels, a standard 4 cylinder engine and versatile hatchback bodies.

The car received huge acclaim and rave reviews from many people as it completely revitalized the Chevrolet Camaro series. Then, in 1993, people witnessed the introduction of the fourth generation Chevrolet Camaro, which was developed on an updated F body platform. The characteristics of the car remained the same as its original model back in 1967, but the design was heavily revamped. A new engine with higher power capabilities 3.8 liter LT1 V8 engine was introduced as a choice in the 1995 model of the fourth generation Chevrolet Camaro.

Extra features included all speed traction control and a new six speed T-56 manual transmission. Finally, in 2006, the production of the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro was approved and it is presently in production. Widely famous for being used in the Transformers movie, the Chevrolet Camaro is a hugely successful car developed by General Motors.

Enzo Ferrari

Amedio Felisa also announced that the six new models of the Special Enzo Ferrari would constitute of Spider and Scuderia versions of the new 458, as well as substitutes for the 612 Scaglietti and 599 GTB Fiorano. Another interesting thing about the Special Enzo Ferrari that would be released in 2012 is that it might come in variants of a V 12 engine, that would surely blast power off the roof of the car.

However, the Special Enzo Ferrari would only be left hand drive only proposition for residents of the United States and the people of Europe. Ferrari are no small players when it comes to developing cars that have power and class, and the Special Enzo Ferraris bound to be a major example of both when it releases in 2012.

Shelby Mustang gt350

The 1965 model of the Shelby GT 350 came with a 3 speed automatic transmission, or a 4 speed manual transmission and it was completely the choice of the buyer as to which he preferred. The car was assembled and manufactured in Ford’s manufacturing company, which is located in Los Angeles, California.

The latest Shelby GT 350, which was released for 2011, has been modified and re designed just like the Ford Mustang. Just like its 2007- 2009 models, the Shelby GT 350 of 2011 features one of a kind rear and front fascias, a hood that features functional vents and a very stylish rear spoiler. A Gurney flap, which is completely functional, is also included in the rear spoiler of the car.

Like the traditional stripes that are painted on to the Shelby GT 350, a new range of colors are also available for the car and now buyers also have the option of extending the exterior stripes in to the interior of the car to give it a more matching look. The car received a huge boost when talking about engines and the new Shelby GT 350 features a powerful 5.4 L aluminum engine which is approximately 102 pounds lighter when you consider its weight with the previous model. More over, the engine is capable of generating horse power up to 540 hp.

The Shelby GT 350’s fuel efficiency was also increased by approximately 2 miles per gallon. Overall, the Shelby GT 350 is a very stylish sports car that is designed by Ford.

Ferrari's latest the 458 has 570bhp and goes faster

Ferrari-458-310709.jpg

There are two things that Italy does better than anyone else: outrageous politicians and sports cars.

And while old Silvio has been up to his tricks, Ferrari has been busy building a fabulous new mid-engined sports car to replace the F430, itself a bit of a stunner.

The new car is called the 458 Italia. From the first bit of the name we can deduce that it's powered by a 4.5-litre eight-cylinder engine.

The new engine is direct-injection and has a whopping 570bhp at a screaming 9,000rpm.

It's more powerful than the F430 engine yet it is cleaner and more economical, not that economy is going to bother an owner that much.

What is important is driving slowly past nightclubs and attracting attention by blipping the throttle.

Many car companies claim to learn lots from racing and include the lessons in their road cars. Often it's just marketing talk but with Ferrari it's believable.

The Italia is full of hi-tech gizmos. For starters it has a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox that changes gear faster than a blink, an electronically controlled differential and something called F1-Trac - a traction-control system that maximises acceleration out of corners without the risk of you flying off into a field.

The major controls are mounted on the steering wheel and by major we don't mean the stereo controls. Ferrari gives you a host of buttons to press that change the traction-control settings, throttle response and lots more. Just like on Raikkonen's F1 Ferrari racer.

As with the F430 the Italia's body and chassis is all aluminium, put together using aerospace technology including hi-tech glues. The Italia's dry weight is 1,380kg (a bit naughty that, as most manufacturers weigh their cars with oil and water in them).

A bloke called Michael Schumacher has played an active part in developing Ferrari's new sports car including helping to design the car's racer-like instruments.

America's Sports Car: Corvette or Tesla

With the Independence Day holiday fresh in our minds, and our nation focused on the troubled and changing economic times, I thought it would be interesting to re-examine what we should consider to be America's sports car. Usually the Chevrolet Corvette immediately comes to mind when thinking of the quintessential American sports car.

Ever since the mid 1950's, the Corvette has symbolized what a classic American sports car should be. A two seater with a big engine up front, able to spin the rear wheels with just a foot on the floor. The Corvette has really come of age recently with the current Z06 model, and the introduction of the 200+ mph ZR1. These cars are lightweight and technically advanced, and worthy of the America's sports car crown.

But let's take a step back, and focus on the changing climate in America. With the auto industry in peril, and the world's focus shifting to more eco-friendly autos, perhaps there is another car to consider. A car from a new company that is working to become a new major player in America, and the world. Tesla Motors has emerged onto the automotive world scene with their Tesla Roadster, an all electric sports car that sprints to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

The Tesla is an electric car based on the Lotus Elise, but with an electric motor. The Tesla is six times more efficient than the average sports car while producing only 10% of the pollution. Tesla Motors is based in California, and is starting to open dealerships all around the US, and the world. At $109,000 the Tesla is not cheap, but you won't need to buy any gas or oil to maintain the roadster. Besides, the Corvette ZR1 also will set you back about $100,000, and is much less efficient.

The next release from Tesla, the Model S is going to have all of the performance of the roadster, but it will be a more useable four seat luxury all electric car. Tesla is already taking orders for the Model S so we are just a couple of years away from perhaps the most revolutionary American car debut since the Chrysler minivan.

If the Model S is well received, and America (and the world) embraces the new technology by installing charging stations along our nations highways, it may just change the way we think about cars. Being a sports car guy, I have always been leery of new hybrid and energy efficient alternative forms of transportation. I was always worried that they would take the fun out of driving. After having been in the Tesla Roadster, I no longer fear the new technology. It is truly an amazingly fast car, and it makes absolutely no noise when underway.

The Tesla Model S is going to sell for around $50,000 after the federal tax credit of $7500. That's pretty much the same as your average high line luxury sedan. The standard Model S will reach 60 miles per hour in just 6 seconds, while an optional sport version will achieve 60 mph in under 5 seconds. The top speed for the Model S is 130 mph. The Model S costs around $5 to drive 230 miles.

If the Model S is constructed as well as the Tesla Roadster, and has even half of its performance abilities, than we just might have a new great American sports car that we can all be proud of. Perhaps the day will come in the future when we have an all electric Corvette. For now, I think America has two great sports cars to call its own, the Corvette and the Tesla Roadster!

Mercedes' performance team confirm e-car plan

The speed freaks at Mercedes-Benz's tuning subsidiary and skunkworks, AMG, are preparing an electric version of the forthcoming SLS AMG gullwing über-coupé.

And here's a schematic of the beast's "SLS eDrive" power train:

AMD SLS eDrive

Inside AMG's SLS eDrive
Click for larger version

AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg recently said the SLS eDrive is pencilled to enter production in 2015. Its petrol-powered sibling, the V8 SLS, will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Unlike the V8, which makes do with power going solely to the rear wheels, the leccy version will be four-wheel drive with each wheel driven by an in-board - rather than in-wheel - electric motor.

According to AMG, the eDrive's motors will produce a combined 392kW (525bhp) of power and 649lb-ft of torque compared to the 571bhp and 479 lb-ft produced by the 6.2l V8 engine in the standard car.

AMD SLS eDrive

Testing the SLS mule in the desert...

The SLS eDrive development will be able to hit 60 in less than four seconds and has a top speed of over 120 mph. Corresponding numbers of the V8 are 3.8s and 198mph, respectively.

The range is rather less impressive, though: between 93 and 112 miles, depending on the load placed on the motors. Presumably, AMG expects those numbers to rise – and dramatically - between now and 2015.

AMD SLS eDrive

...and in the ice

The eDrive's batteries will sit under the floor in the space taken up in the V8 by the “torque-tube” that connects the front-mounted engine to the rear-mounted gearbox and in the space left vacant by the fuel tank.

As a footnote the SLS eDrive's lithium-ion battery pack will be supplied by German company Evonik rather than Tesla with whom Mercedes-Benz recently formed a partnership with just this sort of battery and drive train development in mind.

Packing an available V6, tons of standard safety equipment and a comfortable cabin all at a bargain-basement price, the Sportage is a value leader among small SUVs. Buyers with more flexible budgets may want to check out the Kia's stronger-engined competitors, however.

Pros
Impressive fit and finish, stylish and functional interior, hard-to-beat warranty, standard ABS, side airbags and stability control.

Cons
Down on power and drivetrain refinement versus its competitors.

What's New for 2006
The Sportage EX now features a standard tire-pressure monitor, while all models receive a cabin air filtration system.

Introduction:
The name Sportage doesn't really conjure up warm memories. Many folks remember the Sportage of yesterday, a crude cute-ute that was plagued with quality issues, a weak engine and a cheap interior. Introduced globally in 1993, the Sportage was a body-on-frame small SUV. Updates and revisions through the years were made in an effort to keep the truck-based 'ute competitive. The axe fell in 2002 when the aging Sportage disappeared to make way for the infinitely more refined midsize Sorento. Kia realized a gap was left when the Sportage departed, and knew it had to whip up a mini-ute just as modern as the successful Sorento.

Debuting last year fully redesigned, the current Sportage shares nothing with its predecessor. We're not just talkin' basic parts here: The new SUV even abandons the original's petite dimensions and truck-based body-on-frame structure in favor of a larger design based on a more carlike unibody platform. Kia's goal with the Sportage is to combine the smooth ride, agile handling and refinement of a passenger car, the style and driving position of an SUV and the interior room of a wagon, all in one versatile package. And the company has succeeded. The Sportage is longer, wider and taller than the average compact SUV. The stylish interior features quality materials and great ergonomics. A unique split-folding rear seat is able to fold flat to create a level cargo floor. It does this by lowering the bottom cushion into the footwell, and doesn't even require removal of the head restraints.

Power is provided by two different engines: a 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder engine with continuously variable valve timing, which makes 140 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque; and an optional 2.7-liter V6 engine that produces 173 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and a full-time four-wheel-drive system is optional. The system senses when one or both front wheels lose grip and automatically diverts up to 50 percent of the engine power to the rear wheels. The system can be manually set to a fixed 50/50 split when extra traction is needed for driving in the snow.

The Sportage scores highly on the safety front by including standard four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for front occupants, and front and rear head-protecting side curtain airbags. No longer just a cute little SUV, the Sportage is now a serious competitor in a class of excellent machines. Its affordably priced combination of carlike ride dynamics, roomy passenger quarters and all-weather capability make for a compelling package.

Body Styles, Trim Levels and Options:
The Sportage is a compact four-door SUV offered in two trim levels, LX and EX. Both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (which Kia calls 4WD) are available. Standard features on the LX include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows and locks, tinted glass, a rear wiper and a CD stereo system. The EX adds a sunroof, foglamps and keyless entry. Options include a premium audio system and leather seating.

Powertrains and Performance:
The standard engine on the LX is a 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder engine. It generates 140 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque and is mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic with automanual-shift capability (2WD only). Optional on the LX and standard on the EX is a 2.7-liter V6 that produces 173 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is available with the four-speed automatic only. Buyers can get front-wheel drive (2WD) or all-wheel drive (4WD) with either engine.

Safety:
The Sportage boasts six standard airbags -- front and side-impact airbags for both driver and passenger, and side curtain airbags for both front- and rear-seat occupants. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control are all standard equipment. Neither NHTSA nor the IIHS has crash tested the Sportage.

Interior Design and Special Features:
Kia designed a functional, roomy and attractive interior for the Sportage. Most of the materials are of good quality and the build quality is solid. The rear-seat design allows for a flat load floor by the process of lowering its cushion into the rear footwell; removing the head restraints is not necessary. With the rear seat folded, the Sportage offers 67 cubic feet of cargo capacity, a good figure for this class.

Driving Impressions:
The Sportage provides a carlike ride while returning relatively sporty handling on par with that of most peers. Should you push too hard through a corner, the standard stability and traction control system will intervene to keep you headed in the right direction. Additionally, the Sportage's four-wheel independent suspension system helps smooth bumps without the jittery feel typical of many SUVs. Power from the standard four-cylinder is barely adequate, so we recommend you stick with the larger 2.7-liter V6. The four-speed automatic isn't quite as smooth as the five-speed unit in the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV-4, but it always manages to keep the V6 right in its power band.
